Using your spray adhesive

What you will receive.

You will receive a free 200ml bottle of 3M Repositionable Spray Adhesive with your first large print. This is an acid free easy to use adhesive which is designed for adhering artwork onto different surfaces. Therefore it is designed not to react with or change the ink or paper in any way.

Why we are sending this to you.

This will really help to keep your print flat when framing and avoid rippling. Rippling occurs when moisture gets in and this happens naturally over time. The lighter weight papers are particularly prone to this and the rippling will be noticeable in time. Using the spray adhesive will prevent this from occurring and you will be happy with it forever!

What about the signature?

Dark papers will be signed on the back in pen and gluing them down will mean covering the signature but don't worry! The signature, name of artwork and edition will all be written on your Certificate of Authenticity which will come with your print.

And when you run out?

For each subsequent purchase of a large print, feel free to message me for more spray adhesive if you have run out.

How to use it.

This worked for us but there are probably other ways that are successful.

You will need a well ventilated room, newspaper or protective cloth, masking tape (a small amount), greyboard/ backing board - this is what a picture frame will be backed with (preferably acid free to preserve your print) and 2 pieces of scrap paper, 1 large and 1 small.

  1. Cover the floor with newspaper or protective cloth. Give yourself an extra foot on all sides if possible

  2. Place your print where you want it to go on the greyboard

  3. Using 3 small pieces of masking tape, tape down the print on one edge

  4. Flip it over so you expose the greyboard and the reverse of the print is facing upwards

  5. Shake your can of adhesive spray for about 30 to 60 seconds

  6. Spray your scrap paper for a few seconds to remove any blobs or liquid in the nozzle

  7. Holding your can about 20 cm from the surface and using long, even movements, spray the artwork and greyboard so that it all has a fair, even coverage, right up to the edges

  8. Flip the artwork back onto the greyboard

  9. Lay your large scrap paper on top to avoid rubbing the print directly

  10. Starting at the taped end, flatten the artwork onto the greyboard, using a fir, smooth motion

A few things to note

Leave to dry for a few hours if possible before framing. You really needn't rush once the glue is sprayed as it takes a loooong time to dry. If you have positioned it incorrectly, you can carefully peel it up and reposition it. Keep your movement fluid when spraying as, forgiving as it is, it will create a darker patch if sprayed too thickly in one area.

Please use the spray! It is for the longevity of the print and we want you to be happy with it for a long, long time..
